Sweet

Mister Softee meets Mister Death in Haworth, Yorkshire, 2005.

Raise from your bed of languor
Raise from your bed of dismay
Your friends will not come tomorrow
As they did not come today

You must rely on yourself, they said,
You must rely on yourself,
Oh but I find this pill so bitter said the poor man
As he took it from the shelf

Crying, O sweet Death come to me
Come to me for company,
Sweet Death it is only you I can
Constrain for company.

huh actually i like the verse and the pic...we never had the ice cream truck growing up...and the contrast of sweet death plays well in your total composition...

The photo quietly represents quite a confronting, disturbing scene beautifully complementing the thoughts in your poem!

I like the rolling hills in the picture but it is strange to see an ice cream truck outside a cemetery. It must be a very old one judging by the headstones.

Nice poem to go with it. Maybe the ice cream truck driver was visiting someone there. The poem does make one wonder if anyone will come visit us once we pass on.

Thanks for playing with us for this weeks sweet Theme Thursday. Gloomy but great post.

God bless.
